Devon - a Sound Mind

Devon - A Sound Mind10 September 2008

Kris Allan started this project five years ago, when he was introduced to the "Sound Minds" project in Battersea, South West London. "Sound Minds" uses music and art as therapy for people with mental health conditions. Kris started by taking some photos for a magazine, and through this process met Devon, who was one of the founders of the project, as well as being a musician and actor.

This grew into a documentary of Devon's life, and the exhibition comprises 26 images with accompanying text.

The exhibition is a fascinating insight into the world of a man who has paranoid schizophrenia, helping the viewer to gain insight to a world that is often misunderstood and misrepresented.

Kris Allan is a documentary photographer based in London. He has exhibited at numerous venues previously, including the ICA, Science Museum and The Photographers Gallery, and his work has featured in several national newspapers and magazines, including the Guardian, the Sunday Times, and Harpers & Queen.

The exhibition will be at the Bromley by Bow Centre until Thursday 25 September, on the first floor. After that, it will be on show at Putney Library, and then travel to other venues.
