Bangladesh Project

Baby elephant in Bangladesh 4 February 2009

In January last year, a group from the Bromley by Bow Centre travelled to Bangladesh. This trip built on the existing strong ties between two communities, and helped to formulate plans for a major new project - but one with a huge difference.

Over the next three years, our aim is to build a Healthy Living Centre in Bangladesh.

Around half the population in Bromley by Bow have a cultural connection with Bangladesh. And the Bangladeshi community has played a huge role in helping to develop the Centre and the community over the past 25 years.

During this time, we have learnt a great deal about community regeneration. Not least, we built an exemplar Healthy Living Centre which is helping to transform health outcomes in our community. We now wish to use this knowledge to build a Healthy Living Centre, incorporating a sports centre, in Juri, Bangladesh.

You will be able to follow our progress on our website as these plans develop. In the meantime, if you think you can help, or are interested in finding out more, email Helen Matthews.
