An eager team of volunteers from Bank of America joined us on Friday for a day of hard physical labour in our community garden.
The team, together with colleagues from Merrill Lynch, helped clear disused areas of the garden to increase the growing area, built new raised allotment beds, planted bulbs and trans-located plants in preparation for Spring.
Several members of the team had volunteered at the Centre before. Last October, a team from Bank of America helped us to improve our flower beds, and we were so impressed with their hard work that we were really pleased to benefit from their help again.
During lunch, the team were joined by learners on the Child Care NVQ Course, and got a chance to find out more about the wider work of the Bromley by Bow Centre.
Laura, from the Centre's Development Team, said: "It was a really fun day, and it was really impressive how much work the team from Bank of America and Merrill Lynch managed to get done. They can come back anytime!"
The Community Garden and Allotment form part of the Bromley by Bow Centre's growing therapeutic horticulture project named PoLLeN. This project gives people with mental health problems the opportunities to learn new skills and gain the confidence to move their lives in a positive direction. The Bank of America volunteers’ work will help us make this vital project an even bigger success this year.
