Eight potential new social entrepreneurs came face to face with the Bromley by Bow Centre’s Dragons’ Den selection panel on Thursday 30th July. The panel was made up of members from Investec, Poplar HARCA and a local established social enterprise Bikeworks.
The hopeful candidates - all from Tower Hamlets - were pitching their ideas to Beyond The Barn - a programme run by the Bromley by Bow Centre. Beyond the Barn incubates new social enterprises and provides hands on practical support to ensure their success in the early years of trading. Its key aim is to generate wealth and jobs at a very local level by identifying and helping local social entrepreneurs.
We are delighted to announce that five new social enterprises were selected by the Dragon’s Den panel. These diverse and innovative enterprises are due to be launched later this month. These winning social enterprises will be supported by the programme and will join the existing network of 25 social enterprises already created. Funded by the Tower Hamlets Partnership, and Investec, these new businesses will bring wealth, new jobs and social change to Tower Hamlets.
The winning social enterprises are:
• Creative Images
A new recording studio in East London which will provide supportive facilities to socially and economically excluded groups who wish to develop music, audio-dramas, radio documentaries and other audio resources.
• Fine Cut Events
An innovative Asian wedding market that offers a relaxed one-stop shop for all your wedding needs. This enterprise will provide employment for hard to reach groups within Tower Hamlets.
• Inside Out Living
An enterprise that aims to inspire local community members to identify social and personal needs and influence the changes needed in their communities. This social enterprise will create opportunities for local youth to gain leadership experience and employment.
• Lime House Tailoring
A tailoring service specialising in Asian clothing in Stepney and Limehouse area which will also train and employ socially and economically marginalised people.
• Little Londoners
A high quality mobile creche, providing local residents of Bow an opportunity to work both inside and outside of normal working hours.
Congratulations to all the winners. The Bromley by Bow Centre will be following the development of these new social enterprises and further information will follow, so be sure to watch this space!
