Since earlier this year, the Bromley by Bow Centre has been developing an innovative project to evaluate its model of delivering services in the deprived area of Bromley by Bow. Benchmarking will be a key part of this work, to put our outcomes in context both of peer organisations and alternative ways of meeting people’s needs.
This autumn, the work got off to a great start with the help of two volunteers – an MBA student from Ashridge Business School and a graduate who will be joining Accenture in the New Year – and membership organisation bassac. 23 organisations from across England and Wales participated in an initial survey of potential peer organisations; this was followed up with more detailed visits to four organisations in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Southwark.
We hope in 2010 to start the next project phase in partnership with the New Economics Foundation (nef), conducting detailed benchmarking with up to 10 peer and comparison organisations.
