Our Brighton Marathon runners step up the tempo

8 February 2010

Seven of our brave Brighton Marathon runners came to visited the Centre last week to see the difference their fundraising will make. During their visit the runners visited some of the Centre's projects and spoke with project managers about the impact these project have on our community. In Community Care the runners were shown some of their creative projects including a stylishly decorated dolls house and during their visit to the PoLLeN barn they heard about horticulture therapy from the project's members.

The runners left the visit feeling inspired and excited by their challenge.  Kelly Drummond from G4S said "I was very impressed with the Centre which was completely different to what I had imagined. Seeing the members in action, especially in the garden area and the workshops, was very moving and made me think that I take the finer things in life for granted that some people do not have the opportunity to ever experience"

Rose Coleman, ICT Transformed Ltd said "Knowing the amazing things that the charity is doing and want to continue doing it gives me comfort and encouragement to get up in the mornings and train when knowing I will make a difference in people's lives"

Our team of 16 runners will be competing in the first-ever Brighton Marathon on Sunday 18th April and each member has pledged to raise £750 to support the Centre's work. Team members come from a range of backgrounds including those from some of our corporate partners (including G4S and Rothschild), Centre staff and individuals who have heard about our work and simply wanted to do something to help!

The Centre's Chief Executive, Rob Trimble is also a fully signed up member of the team and has been stepping up his training and fundraising this week, "Anyone who knows me will verify that me completing a marathon will be a truly amazing achievement by any standard. So having agreed to do it, I am keen that we raise as much money for the work of the Bromley by Bow Centre as possible...and so justify the pain! Do give generously!"

We want to wish the Brighton Marathon team all the best in their training and fundraising. If you would like to show your support for the team, why not visit their online fundraising pages, http://www.justgiving.com/charity/search.aspx?cid=97273

Any support is greatly appreciated.
