‘Health Bounce’ Board Game Launched this Summer

Health Bounce is the newest invention of the Bromley by Bow Centre and is a board game that is a cross between snakes and ladders and trivial pursuits! The idea behind the game is to create an entirely unique product which conveys key health messages and at the same time supports people to understand and speak English better....and have fun in the process.
The idea for the game came from the joint work of our Skills for Life Team and NHS Tower Hamlets and the need to overcome language problems which prevent our students and patients from understanding health issues and taking important steps toward healthier lives. The concept of the board game was discussed with the team at Lekker Design (the Centre's in-house design social enterprise) who then created Health Bounce.
Among the topics covered in the game are: maintaining a healthy weight, alcohol awareness, accessing the NHS, cervical screening, lung cancer, bowel cancer, giving up tobacco and breast screening. The board game is a fun way to raise awareness about very serious issues.
Two hundred ‘Health Bounce' board games were designed, manufactured and distributed this summer to English tutors in the local borough. This is an excellent new tool for basic skills tutors and health professionals across the UK.
