The Bromley by Bow Centre has a reputation for delivering innovative health and well being projects. We are delighted to tell you about our newest wellbeing initiative: Our Healthy Life supported by the Pfizer UK Foundation (an initiative of Pfizer Limited).
Our Healthy Life is a one year health project for people with learning disabilities based at the Centre. The project aims to improve people’s knowledge about health and improve their health outcomes. The project includes a 16 week course for people with learning disabilities and covers a wide range of subjects such as: healthy eating, exercise, going to the doctor, Health Action Plans and health checks.
Our Healthy Life doesn’t stop there… People attending the course will also be supported to access health services, and signposted to other activities in the borough that will help them to improve their health i.e. physical activity groups. Training will also be available for support staff on healthy lifestyles and how to support people with learning disabilities to improve their health. Support and information sessions will be run for carers.
Our Healthy Life aims to address the poor health outcomes of people with learning disabilities in eastern Tower Hamlets. One in seven adults with learning disabilities rates their general health as “not good” making Our Healthy Life an important part of our mission to help create a cohesive, healthy, successful and vibrant community.
We hope you are as excited about Our Healthy Life as we are and if you want more information, or know someone who would like to take part, please contact: Jo Holoway, Our Healthy Life Project Manager, tel: 020 8709 9841 or email: Jo.holoway@bbbc.org.uk
