A big THANK YOU to our Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon Runners!

17 November 2011

On Sunday 9th October a team of four Bromley by Bow Centre runners gathered alongside 12,500 other runners including three Olympic Gold Medallists and a team of celebrities for the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon.

The Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon follows a 13.1 mile scenic course through London’s magnificent Royal Parks. Our runners followed the route through an autumnal Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, Green Park and St James’s Park passing some of London’s most iconic landmarks cheered along by 40,000 spectators.

“The Royal Parks Half Marathon was a great experience, it was the furthest distance I’d ever run and it was very challenging, particularly in the final third. However, the sense of achievement after crossing the finishing line was amazing. Along the route, it was great to see so many members of the public out in force to cheer us on. The staff from the Bromley by Bow Centre were ever-present, giving me encouragement before and during the race, and providing me with much-needed refreshments once I’d (eventually) finished” Mark, 2011 Royal Parks Half Marathon Runner

The Bromley by Bow Centre runners did an amazing job and were in high spirits at the finish line. We all celebrated with tea and cake over-looking the Serpentine as the runners showed loved ones their ‘piece of the parks’ wooden leaf medal and shared tales of the run.

We would like to thank our four half marathon runners for so far raising an amazing total of £2,354 to support our vital work. With their support we really can transform lives.

“Overall the whole experience, from training through to crossing the finishing line, has been very rewarding and one that has benefitted me immensely. I would recommend to anyone, to get involved with the charity and take part in an event like the Royal Parks” Mark, 2011 Royal Parks Half Marathon Runner
