2012 is an exciting year for London and to celebrate the Bromley by Bow Centre have partnered with Rothschild to deliver a number of events bringing the local community together.
Rothschild has generously supported Art East with the creation of a "Sporting Superheroes" community window display in Canary Wharf. Art East is our budding social enterprise that exists to develop creative, social and business skills in individuals with learning and physical disabilities through collaborative working with artists and volunteers. Enthusiastic Rothschild volunteers worked alongside Art East members in sessions in the months leading up to the unveiling of the window at the start of May:
"It really is such an eye-catching window. I just want to thank Art East and the Bromley by Bow Centre for letting me feel a tiny part of it. I think the window is fabulous and I wish it could be there all the time, as it really draws your attention as you walk by." Rothschild volunteer
Art East launched the Canary Wharf Community Window concept, in partnership with the Canary Wharf Group, in 2008 with a King Kong inspired window display and are proud to have been asked to create a display again in 2012. The "Sporting Superheroes" window will be on display in the lead up to the Olympics.
Rothschild also supported our learning champions at our annual Adult Learners' Week Celebration Day this May. The Celebration Day gave local people the opportunity to try new things such as planting seedlings, Bollywood dancing and cycling. The aim was to inspire people to discover how learning can change their lives. As the third largest provider of adult education and training in Tower Hamlets, the Bromley by Bow Centre has almost 500 learners enrolled on courses. These courses range from English for speakers of other languages, through NVQs geared towards local job opportunities, to Degrees of Success, a degree in Social Enterprise. The Celebration Day enables learners to discover new learning opportunities and celebrate their successes with two "Inspirational Learners" receiving a special award in front of their peers.
And, as if that wasn't enough, we are excited to announce that the Bromley by Bow Centre will be holding an alternative sports day in partnership with Old Palace School and Rothschild on the 6th July. This sports day will be part of our wider Extraordinary Festival running throughout the Olympic season. Alongside the sports day the Extraordinary Festival will have an Opening Ceremony complete with parade and newly commissioned Bromley by Bow Centre Anthem, an Art Exhibition and screenings of Olympic Events.
"We are delighted to be supporting a number of projects at the Bromley by Bow Centre this year, and are particularly pleased we have the chance to help generate a sense of excitement amongst local residents and Rothschild volunteers alike about this summer's special events."
We would like to thank Rothschild for their continued generosity and Rothschild volunteers for their enthusiasm.
