31 July 2012
We were delighted to welcome our adult learners and their families to the Centre on 12th July for Adult Learners Certificate Day. Learners came together from across the Centre's learning programmes including NVQ, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and IT students, to celebrate their achievements in Bob's Park.
The Certificate Day celebrates the achievements of every learner over the past year with one learner receiving the "Zeinab Ibrahim Outstanding Learner Award". This year Rukhsana Begum was acknowledged for her hard work and achievements. As a new arrival in the UK, Rukhsana was committed to improving her language skills and confidence. Rukhsana made the most of the learning opportunities at the Centre and completed Food Hygiene and First Aid Courses whilst working towards her ESOL qualification.
"I am so lucky to be here at the Bromley by Bow Centre as I learnt so many things here. My teacher [Fahmida] and all
staff are so good. I want to study more ESOL and find a job" Rukhsana, "Zeinab Ibrahim Outstanding Learner of the Year 2012" Awardee
The certificate day gives learners the opportunity to celebrate their achievements with their friends and family, take part in lots of fun activities and end the celebrations with a community picnic.
For many of the Centre's learners getting their first formal qualification in English will unlock the potential to move into employment and the freedom to communicate better with their community, giving them much greater independence:
"When I did the course I learnt lots of things so I want to say "Thank You" to my teacher. I am very happy, it has made me more confident now I have a new job in a big supermarket and I am really happy"
"The ESOL course was too good. We had gone to so many places like Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Thames Cruise which we cannot do ourselves Thank you. I am very happy."
We would like to congratulate all of our learners and thank the Learning Team for their hard work throughout the year.
