We are seeking "Credit Champions" to join our new project

26 September 2012

This month has seen the start of the exciting new "Credit Champions" project - a joint initiative between the London Community Credit Union (LCCU) and the Bromley by Bow Centre.

The Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative owned and run for the benefit of it's members, it also participates in local anti-poverty work directly supporting our local community. It aims to support those who struggle to manage their financial affairs through providing affordable credit, basic saving products and money management sessions.

Our "Credit Champions" project aims to increase community awareness of the valuable services that the LCCU has to offer to the residents of Tower Hamlets and Hackney. Community and Workplace Credit Champions will be recruited, trained and supported to help the LCCU in it's outreach work. Our Community Credit Champions will be participating in the LCCU's year long tour of community venues around Hackney and Tower Hamlets. The Community Champions will also have the opportunity of gaining an NVQ whilst getting work experience in one of the Credit Union branches. Our Workplace Credit Champions will be supported to promote the Credit Union and it's services within their workplaces, creating links between local employers and the Credit Union.

"I can't think of a better time for this project to be happening. With so many people struggling at the moment, I think it is really important that people know how and where they can access affordable financial services and low cost credit" Adam Farrell, Credit Champion Coordinator
