Fit for Life
The Bromley by Bow Centre is partnering with Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Ability Bow to deliver the new Fit for Life weight management service across Tower Hamlets.
The Public Health funded service is an enhanced weight management programme that supports local residents, many of whom have long term health conditions. Users are supported over a period of one year to improve their health through motivational support, weight management, healthy eating and physical activity.
The service is provided free of charge for those aged 18 and over with a BMI above 30 (27.5 for South Asian residents).
Scheme Manager Claire Dunne comments “This is a new targeted and holistic service to support the whole person and embed health behaviour change. We have a dedicated team of specialists providing initial assessments and using coaching techniques to help people identify their goals, the barriers they wish to overcome and to develop personal action plans”.
A Fit for Life participant comments “I have turned a corner. I am following the lessons I’ve learnt and I continue to lose excess weight. I’m staying active by walking rather than taking the bus and incorporating exercise classes into my life.”
