Our Employment Service works with hundreds of people each year, helping them every step of the way towards getting into work. Their free, confidential and impartial advice is delivered by qualified and experienced staff, and includes:

  • Careers advice
  • Practical assessments to identify individual needs and requirements
  • Individual action plans and goal setting
  • Help with C.V. writing, application forms, Interview skills and techniques
  • Motivation, support and encouragement

The team has access to all the latest vacancies, and help guide clients through the job search process. We also operate an employer liaison programme, working with employers to offer work experience and placements alongside permanent positions. They focus particularly on the long-term unemployed or those who have never had a job, easing the transition into work.

Employability
With funding from Bank of America we have established the Stepping Out project as part of the Communiversity programme. This has enabled us to make great strides in offering special support to learners on vocational courses to take the next step into work after their course. The programme provides;

  • Specialist workshops for vocational learners covering CV writing, interview techniques, completing application forms
  • An individual employment broker to help them find work
  • Building relationships with local employers

More than half of our clients who used our employment service in 2006/7 were young people aged 16-25. In the same financial year, they worked with roughly equal numbers of men and women, and the client group represented a wide range of ethnic backgrounds.

The team works closely with the Welfare and Benefits team at the Centre, as well as our other services, such as Learning and the Children's Centre.
