Jane paintingJane - Arteast

Jane has been a member of Arteast since it started. She is supported to attend the group by an artist funded by our partner in the project, The Map squad. Jane has been involved in the production of t-shirts for the Bubble Club, a nightclub for people with disabilties. She has made her own design and several of her t-shirts have been sold at the event attended on average by 200 people.

Jane is one of several members of Arteast who have jobs in the Bubble Club. She was also involved in the production of the t-shirts for a local Children's centre for a Breast-feeding project. Jane has also made designs that she drew directly into the computer using a drawing pad. Jane is very keen on ICT and she has been enabled to put together a range of presentation packages such as PowerPoints showing projects achieved by the group. These presentations are used when the group is seeking new commissions. Her designs have been translated onto a silk screen, then she has been trained to print onto the t-shirts.

Jane is a very proactive member of the group and is always vocal when we are doing planning sessions; she was very excited about the exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. She was very engaged with the process of documenting the weekly journey that Arteast makes through Bromley By Bow Centre. It was not possible to take the whole group to the gallery for installation and Jane was chosen as one of the people to hang the show. She attended the opening night event and was very inspired by the whole project.

Jane has been involved in all the other projects recently completed, including the King Kong display at Canary Wharf, the exhibitions at Rhythm Factory and Brady Arts centre and the shark display for the bike shop.

Jane has recently been awarded a small grant to enable her to undertake her own series of paintings leading to a solo show of her work at a public venue in Tower Hamlets.
