Our mission

Our mission is to help create a cohesive, healthy, successful and vibrant community, and to remove the label ‘deprived’ from Bromley by Bow.

A model that works

Over the past 27 years the Bromley by Bow Centre has developed a model of community regeneration that works. Its tried and tested model is continually being honed and improved as the needs in the community change.

It is this approach that makes the Bromley by Bow Centre distinctive and effective in what it does. The model has three key elements that lead to success.

1. The Bromley by Bow Centre is highly accessible

The Centre has designed buildings, services and projects that are easy to access and that make it easy for people to get involved. There are an unusually high number of ways to take part in activities, both formally and informally. The Centre is committed to continual outreach by knocking on doors as well as making contact through GP surgeries, local schools and other venues. Also, a large percentage of the staff team is recruited locally, meaning that they understand the issues that the community face and act as positive role models.

2. The Bromley by Bow Centre provides integrated services

The range of services on offer is exceptionally broad for one organisation and is designed to provide something for everyone. The programmes dovetail and benefit from having a unified approach where staff across services areas work together to ensure that clients are continually being helped to access the range of support that they need for themselves and their families.

3. The Bromley by Bow Centre creates progression pathways

At the heart of the model is the phrase "assume it’s possible". This encapsulates a determination to ensure that everyone who engages with the Centre is enabled to fulfil their full potential. Key to this is the way Centre staff support individuals, both formally and informally, over many years. The end result is people achieving changes in their lives and circumstances that they never dreamed were possible when they first arrived.
