Our mission is to help create a cohesive, healthy, successful and vibrant community, and to remove the label ‘deprived’ from Bromley by Bow.

From modest beginnings, the Bromley by Bow Centre has grown and developed into a major organisation. Many different people have contributed their energies and talents in thousands of different ways to create the organisation that exists today. We have, however, held true to a core set of values that have guided us through our development and continue to guide us today.
These values are embedded in the culture of the Centre, and inform the way we work.
Below is a brief summary of three values that influence the way we design our services:
The Centre started in a Church, which became a meeting place for people of other faiths and none, and then became home to a nursery, artist studios and more. We found that ideas and solutions came from different people sharing the same space, and so the Centre works in much the same way today. The Centre today runs a very diverse range of projects and activities, but they are integrated together in a cohesive way, complementing each other and contributing to our overall mission.
We set unashamedly high standards, and strive to exceed them. The quality of the buildings and open spaces at the Centre are not a nice add-on, but fundamental to what we are trying to achieve. We are all creatures of our environment, and a beautiful environment inspires us to raise our aspirations and challenge ourselves. We have never understood why the services in Bromley by Bow should not match the best available elsewhere, and so we set out to ensure that they did.
By doing things together, we can achieve so much more. By recognising that different people have different skills, and celebrating the richness of these differences, we can learn from each other and bring equity to our relationships. Many lessons have been learnt during the development of the Centre, but it's not always been easy to tell who was the teacher and who was the student. Everyone has something to offer, and something to learn.
