Signs Of Life has developed it's creative practice with special needs schools and mainstream schools with SEN provision over the last five years. This experience is enhanced by the professional development programme at the Bromley by Bow Centre, where our artists run weekly creative sessions with community care and arteast - both being groups for adults with disabilities and learning difficulties.
Our team of artists have a strong and unique skill-set in this area and are experienced at addressing the varying degrees of need in a positive, creative way. Amongst our team is a qualified special needs teacher, Makaton sign language skills, experienced support workers and tutors that have developed a wide range of programmes involving an array of sensory work. Our practice involves combining art with play and movement. All participants are encouraged to take part, with special provision for wheelchair users and people with restricted movement.
Our artists bring a range of specialisms and years of professional practice as exhibiting artists to their work. We work with ceramics, fabric hangings, model-making, painting, illustration and mosaic work as well as producing murals, display boards, puppet-making and props for theatre and carnival events.
