The Welfare & Benefits Advice Service team provides confidential and impartial advice on:
High unemployment, low educational achievement, and poor health causes widespread hardship and misery in Bromley by Bow. Household indebtedness is rife, and exploited by loan sharks and other unscrupulous lenders, and many families feel caught in the poverty trap. The welfare and benefits team helps people access available benefits and support, and take the first steps to break out of poverty.
The team is made up of people from a mix of backgrounds with a range of languages and many speak fluent Sylheti (spoken by the local Bangladeshi community). Services are provided at a number of places in the local community - at the Bromley by Bow centre itself, as well as through an outreach service at the Marner Children’s Centre (part of the Bromley by Bow Centre), Belton Way Children’s Centre and Marner School. The service is also provided through the Bromley by Bow Centre’s GP practice and All Saints GP Practice.
The team is an integral part of the Centre's model, and works closely with our other services to give people the help and support they need.
