On Monday 22nd May, 2024. Keir Starmer made a speech about Labour’s vision for the future of the NHS in Essex.

The speech included ambitious plans to cut deaths from heart disease, cancer and suicide and plans to provide more integrated approaches to care.

He stated that if Labour were in power they would ‘make good on the integration of health and social care backing successful models like the Centre at Bromley by Bow where, in one place, they bring together doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social carers to provide joined-up care in the community, keeping people out of hospital.’

It was gratifying to hear the Centre mentioned as an exemplar for integrated care because we have always known the importance of sectors working together to address the wider determinants of ill health.  This includes, the health sector, social care, local Government, community and voluntary sectors, business and social enterprise.

The factors making people unwell are complex and interwoven.  It makes sense that responses are joined-up too.  At the Centre we have known this for nearly 40 years.
