We’re recruiting our next cohort of energy champions, would you like to be involved?

The Empower project supports our community to take better control of energy use and save money. We do that by delivering free, informal sessions where participants learn about how they can reduce the amount of energy they use, as well as tips and tricks like changing tariffs and finding discounts.

The programme also trains ‘Energy Champions’ who learn how to help others in their community save energy and money and we’re currently looking for new champions to be trained.

Now at the end of its first year, 20 Energy Champions have been trained, so far with a 100% pass rate, with a further 16 due to complete their training in the next few weeks. These trained Energy Champions are sharing their knowledge by speaking with family and friends, supporting them to change their energy usage habits and consider cheaper options. Some are also volunteering with the team to train new recruits.

Participants report improved confidence and how much they’ve enjoyed connecting with their communities.

“Before I started this course, I was so lonely and I was looking for something, I’m glad I met everyone here”
– online learner

“I was scared to change energy company before but now I feel more confident to change”
– online learner

We are also delivering energy workshops to external organisations, attending community events to share energy information and providing energy information to attendees of the food bank on Mondays.

Get involved

We’re now looking for participants for our 4th cohort. Sessions can take place online, or face-to-face at the Centre.
