In May the Centre celebrated the remarkable achievement of 60 people trained to become Energy Champions by our Empower You Too project, delivered with our project partners Citizens Advice East End and Age UK East London. Many of the trainees attended a graduation ceremony to celebrate their achievements together for the first time, some of whom had completed their training online during the pandemic lockdowns.

The project, supported by the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme, trained the Energy Champions on a course that taught them how to help both themselves and others in their community to save energy and money. The Centre delivered the free OCN accredited course where participants learnt about how they can reduce the amount of energy they use, as well as tips, tricks and up to date advice on tariffs and switching, which evolved as the energy crisis took hold.

These trained Energy Champions are now out in the community sharing their knowledge by speaking with family, neighbours and friends, supporting them to change their energy usage habits and consider cheaper options. Some have also volunteered with the team to train new recruits. This means that the legacy of the project lives on and we continue to be inspired by some of the moving personal journeys that learners have been on since getting involved in Empower You Too. Many congratulations to all the graduates.
