The 21st to 28th of January is Big Energy Saving Week, a national event run by Citizens Advice, aimed at helping people to reduce their energy costs through switching and saving. We are launching a new energy drop-in service which will help local residents to access the best deals, discounts and information to help them save money on their bills.
The week focuses on raising public awareness of how to save money on energy costs by switching energy supplier or tariff, accessing discounts or grants, and making homes more energy efficient.
As part of the week the Bromley by Bow Centre’s East End Energy Fit team will be launching their new energy advice drop in service. The launch event will be taking place on Wednesday the 23rd January from 9:30am to 12:30pm and will include freebies, games and activities, as well as the opportunity to have an ‘energy health check’ and see how you could save on your bills. We’ll also have a light bulb swap where old bulbs can be traded in for a new energy efficient LED.
Jim Fitzpatrick MP will be officially opening the service at 10am. Following on from the launch event, the drop in service will continue every Wednesday from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
Later that day, the Centre will also be popping up at Shadwell Fire Station’s Warm, Safe and Well event running from 3:30 – 5:30pm and one of the Centre’s energy advisors, Mosrath Jahan will be receiving a National Heat Hero award at Parliament, along with others from all over the country, recognised for their service to people in fuel poverty.
The Bromley by Bow Centre has been delivering energy advice for 7 years and is funded by British Gas Energy Trust. The Centre’s work as part of Big Energy Saving Week is part of a wider campaign led nationally by Citizens Advice. The Centre sees 1,000 people per year for energy advice. Last year the service increased the income of clients by £715k per year, wrote off £68k in utility debt and acquired £91k in grants for beneficiaries. 71 people were helped to switch energy tariffs resulting in £14K of savings.
Come to the energy drop in on Wednesday 23 Jan from 9.30 to 12.30, or on any following Wednesday. For more information, contact 020 8709 9745 or eastendenergyfit@bbbc.org.uk
