Making mosaic

Social Care’s Making mosaic group has been running for 25 years at the Bromley by Bow Centre and is one of our most well-established sessions. Members meet every Friday, achieving remarkable results in this very popular medium.

Clients make work for themselves to take home, as well as mosaics that feature in various exhibitions, art markets and can be found throughout the Centre. Mosaics tutor, Sheenagh McKinlay, supports members of all abilities through all stages of designing and making, so that after several weeks they have completed a beautifully finished mosaic.

Sheenagh has over 30 years experience teaching in a community context and is passionate about supporting people to achieve the best possible artistic and technical results.

Members gain new observational skills, improve their manual dexterity and have a new understanding of traditional materials, mosaic design and techniques.

They also learn a range of artistic and social skills as they research visual ideas, shape designs and finish pieces – all the while being encouraged to speak about their work.
